Getting Back On Track
For many people, the Holidays can be challenging. Juggling work, family, school & social events, making the daily routine discombobulated. So, as this holiday season gets underway, you may need to check in with yourself and your family.
Your wellbeing doesn’t just take care of itself, it needs some attention. Many people see self-care as a luxury, however, it is essential to recharge your battery to make sure you are your best self to take care of yourself and your family.
Everyone will approach self-care differently, but some important areas to consider include:
Look After Your Body
When it comes to boosting your emotional wellbeing, taking care of your physical wellbeing can go a long way. This includes the little details such as choosing to use things to help you relax from a variety of daily activities, taking time to relax and exercise, maintaining good sleep levels, and watching what you eat. Making sure you have a balanced and healthy diet improves how you feel both mentally and physically.
Take Time Away From Screens
You may not realize it but it is important to take some time away from your laptop and cell phone, especially before you are going to sleep. It will help us to reset and recharge. Think about what you can replace your screen time with, things such as exercise, reading, and other hobbies are all great ways to avoid screen time. As a family, you could think about playing games together or enjoying an activity outdoors.
The Value Of A Routine
You need to think about how your routine and your family's routine co-exist. You may even find that your routine has been changed completely throughout the last few years, and now is the time to start reinstating it. If you have teenagers at home, they may have changed their routine completely when they were spending more time at home. Helping your kids, regardless of their age, to re-establish a regular routine will be important to get them ready for returning to school after the holidays.
Time away from work is a great chance for you to relax, however, things still need to get done. Therefore, you need to find balance. Planning ahead of time can mean everyone gets to make the most of their free time. Try to spend each day with a little of the ‘to do’s and the fun activities. If your task is a lot to tackle, work through it one step at a time. You will be surprised at just how much you can accomplish when you spread the hard with the easy and keep your downtime enjoyable.
Getting through the Holidays can be challenging. It’s OK if you feel a little overwhelmed, its time to get BACK ON TRACK! Allow yourself and your family a little time to reflect, recharge, and take stock.
